AccessABILITY by TAR, a Nonprofit Organisation, has initiated a project titled “Restoring Dignity, Inclusion, and Equality for Persons with Special Needs” in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The 4-day event is aimed at creating awareness about the need for special students to be seen, heard, and catered to.
The first phase took place on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Kwara State Special Needs School in Yakuba, Ilorin. The government-owned school received volunteers from the AccessABILITY by TAR group, who sensitised the students on the need to empower themselves and develop confidence, even in their conditions.
Blind, Deaf, and Mentally Challenged students in the school were presented with footwear and other gift items.
Aliyu Rahmat Olajumoke, the founder of AccessABILITY by TAR, in her speech noted, “Today, we took a powerful step forward. We reached 95 special needs students, placing school sandals and socks into hands that have waited too long.”
She explained that the project name, AccessABILITY by TAR, is born of the need for these special students to have access (to get what they need without restrictions) and ability (their disabilities do not mean invisibility).
“For many reasons, this wasn’t just footwear, but it was dignity, inclusion, and a reason to smile.”
The founder, an undergraduate student at the University of Ilorin, is also a teacher, writer, and passionate advocate for children’s safety and well-being.
