Nigeria has taken a major leap in promoting accessibility and inclusiveness for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) as the country unveiled its first accessibility-adapted vehicle, aimed at improving mobility and economic participation.
This initiative, led by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Abba Mohammed Isa, involves a strategic partnership between Elizade Autoland and JAC Motors.
The ceremony saw the unveiling of the specially designed JAC J7 saloon car, a car built for PWDs’ independent use. Isa noted that discussions about inclusive policies have been ongoing since July 2025 and the President is actively involved with stakeholders to promote accessibility through governance.
The adapted vehicle will be formally presented to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. He also disclosed that there are plans for bulk procurement and distribution of these adapted vehicles across the 774 local government areas of the country.
Such an initiative, as projected, would provide sustainability and income opportunities for Persons with Disabilities who are willing to integrate into the e-hailing industry and make money for themselves.
This innovation marks a significant impact in the inclusion and implementation of Persons with Disabilities in the society.
