A corps member and journalist attached to the Pointer Newspaper with the State Code: DT/24C/2829, Babalola Toheeb, is set to hold a four-day digital and media training for adults living with autism.
Babalola, who is serving under the National Youth Development Service (NYSC) Oshimili South Local Government, will commence the physical training from Tuesday, October 7th, to Friday, October 10th, 2025, at Joy-in-Africa Foundation, Marble Hill Junction, Okpanam Road in Asaba.
The training will feature computer appreciation and publishing, smartphone operation and photography, and media literacy.
Speaking with PWDSpotlight, Babalola stated that training is his personal community development service project entitled “TechAbility: Empowering Autistic Adults/Kids Through Technology,” which has been approved by NYSC for implementation.
The corps member said the project aims to bridge the gaps between disability and innovation, providing the target group access to digital and media literacy skills, focusing on Sustainable Development Goals 10, 4, and 9.
He explained that he targets to enrol only 20 participants who were socially relegated from knowing basic computer operations because of their intellectual quality (IQ).
“As I am rounding up my service in Asaba, I have had it in mind to carry out a developmental project purposely for the people living with autism. It is a way of me giving back to society.
“I noticed that people with special needs are lagging behind in digital skills, and they are facing unemployment. The world is now digital; nobody should be left behind in computer operation and content creation,” Babalola said.
Describing the setup for the training, he said that the participants would be divided into five groups while attaching each trainer and computer to them.
The corps member stated that “the last day will be a graduation and sensitisation day where a speaker would be invited to lecture the parents, participants, and other attendees. All the participants and volunteers would get certificates.”
