A total of 1,622 candidates with disabilities participated in the 2025 Internal Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The figure, which comprises 586 males and 355 females with hearing impairments, as well as 111 males and 80 females with visual impairments, was disclosed by the National Examination Council (NECO).
During a press briefing on Wednesday in Minna, the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, stated that the inclusion of persons with disabilities demonstrates the Council’s commitment to providing equal opportunities in education. During the event, the results were released.
In the overall examination, 818,492 candidates (60.26%) obtained five credits and above, including Mathematics and English Language.
Professor Wushishi announced that there was a significant reduction in the number of candidates found guilty of examination malpractice this year (3,878) compared to 2024 (10,094). Thirty-eight schools across thirteen states were implicated in mass cheating and will face sanctions, while nine supervisors across Rivers, Niger, Kano, Osun, and the FCT were recommended for blacklisting over misconduct.
With the adoption of a reviewed curriculum, NECO will henceforth conduct SSCE examinations in 38 subjects only. This move is expected to reduce the waiting time for the release of results.
