The National Commission for Persons With Disabilities has commended the Songs of Joy Foundation for distributing mobility aids, including tricycle wheelcharis and other assistive technologies to persons with disabilities in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The commendation was given by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Hon. Ayuba Gufwan, on Wednesday, 6th of August, 2025, at an event in which the Foundation distributed the aids.
Gufwan noted that the mobility aids and assistive technologies to Persons With Disabilities across Nigeria would ease their daily activities and ensure accessibility. He diclosed that the Commission also does this and would continue to do so across the country.
“Mobility aids are not merely devices, but lifelines that can empower persons with disabilities to pursue education, learn skills, become entrepreneurs, and contribute meaningfully to the national economy,” Gufwan explained.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Songs of Joy Foundation, in her opening remarks, described the distribution of these wheelchairs as an effort to restore inclusiveness and help these PWDs with mobility to several places of their choice.
Mrs. Maryam Shadrach Michael, while appreciating the Executive Secretary, the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre, sponsors, and partners, encouraged beneficiaries of this initiative to surmount their challenges since they have now been given access to mobility with the wheelchairs distributed.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the organizers of the event, emphasizing the impact that has been made and reiterating the ease that has been introduced to their daily lives with reference to their mobility.
Phoebe Jonathan and Habiba Abdulkareem expressed appreciation to the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre, and the Songs of Joy Foundation for remembering them and meeting this dire need in a bid to encourage them and make them feel special.
The National Commission for Persons With Disabilities is a government agency tasked with the responsibility of promoting the rights of PWDs and advocating their inclusion in policymaking in society.
