Team Nigeria has dominated the West Africa ‘Zone A & B’ Para Games since it kicked off on November 28, 2025, in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The maiden edition, hosted by Nigeria, had about 10 countries present at the opening ceremony, with over 700 para-athletes set to compete in an initiative aimed at promoting inclusivity and sportsmanship among Persons with Disabilities.
“The host country has a delegation of over 190 persons, and we have taken care of accommodation, venues, transportation, medical services, and security. I want to assure everyone that Nigeria and Ogun are safe. Sports unite nations, and para sports will unite us,” Local Organising Committee chairman Victor Achakpo said on Friday.
The tournament began on a high note for the host country, with a dominant 11-0 victory over the Benin Republic in amputee football at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to hosting para sports in Africa, citing Nigeria’s excellent track record in this area.
“Hosting these Games has given renewed hope and assurance to people living with disabilities. I remain committed to supporting them because they embody resilience and determination,” he said.
