The Senior Special Assistant to the president on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities (SSAP), Abba Isa, explained that the Beyond Disability Project will transform lives. This was during the presentation of his achievements in office in the space of one year in Abuja on Saturday, November 9.

He said, “The Beyond Disability Project lunched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in July 2024,  stands as a landmark initiative of my office that will transform the lives of over 5,000 PWDs and create more than 36,551 job opportunities nationwide. “

The Beyond Disability Project was launched in July, 2024 and according to the SSA, it is dedicated to harnessing the talents of PWDs, supporting their education, and creating awareness about their rights.

Isa stated further that appointment letters and terms of references were presented to some state coordinators of the project. According to him, this is  “in furtherance of the Beyond Disability Project, and in a landmark move towards realizing the objectives of the Beyond Disability Project, which is to create 36,551 jobs for Persons With Disabilities from the national level down to the local government and ward levels

Abba Musa also spoke about how his office has been working towards job creation and economic empowerment programs. He explained that his engagement with the governor of Borno, Babagana Zulum, on the need to implement 5% employment quota as stated in the National Disability Act brought about positive results as 15 Persons With Disabilities were employed a week later. He said, “we have equally initiated several programs aimed at economically empowering PWDs.”

According to him, the trainings include; Vocational training, microfinance schemes and partnerships with the private sector for the purpose of creating jobs that are in synchronization with the capabilities and skills of PWDs.
