The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has reiterated its commitment to mental health and psychosocial disability inclusion in Nigeria.
The pledge was made by the Executive Secretary of the commission, Hon. Ayuba Burki Gufwan, while hosting the Executive Director and Founder of a non-profit organisation, She Writes Woman, Hauwa Ojeifo.
Ojeifo, during a courtesy visit to the commission’s headquarters, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to its mission of amplifying the struggles of mental health patients and empowering people with psychosocial disabilities in society.
Hon. Gufwan commended the efforts of She Writes Woman, applauding its role in promoting inclusive platforms and programs for psychosocially disabled persons in Nigeria and calling for deeper collaboration.
“Disability inclusion is the responsibility of all. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with She Writes Woman and other organisations to advance the cause of persons with disabilities in Nigeria,” he said.
It was emphasised during the visit that a capacity-building workshop should be explored to orient people on psychosocial disabilities and support the Commission’s institutional agenda.
The partnership between NCPWD and She Writes Woman dates back three years, when both organisations co-hosted the maiden Mental Health Roundtable at the Commission, which later gave birth to the Mental Health Desk within NCPWD.
