The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has released N50,404,506.78 for the medical assistance of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.
At a meeting held at its secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, LASODA disclosed that the initiative is part of an ongoing effort to cater for the medical needs of PWDs and provide financial aid for their surgeries, treatment of exacerbated health conditions, and provision of medications.
The General Manager of LASODA, Mrs Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, made this known on the 10th of August, 2026, when she reiterated the need to reduce the financial burdens of underprivileged persons within the State.
“On behalf of the Lagos State Governor, the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, and the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, we are giving you these funds to cater to your medical needs, ranging from surgeries to the treatment of prolonged illnesses and other medical conditions, as requested by you,” she said.
According to her, beneficiaries requiring substantial medical expenses would have their money paid directly to the hospitals, while those receiving small amounts would be credited directly.
In addition, Mrs Oyetunde-Lawal urged fathers to take up their responsibilities in the lives of their children with disabilities, emphasizing that both parents are important to the growth of their children.
Fathers should try as much as possible to care for their children with disabilities. These children need both parents. We are doing this to ease the burden on our mothers, especially women who have been left alone to care for their children with disabilities, she advised.
The 30 beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Lagos State Government, stating that this intervention will go a long way in tackling various health challenges and improving their quality of life.
