The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening disability inclusion in Nigeria by pledging technical support to programmes that empower women and young persons with disabilities.
The commitment was made by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Hon. Ayuba Burki Gufwan, during a courtesy visit by the Founder of Sauri Growth Initiatives for Women and Youth with Disabilities, Miss Comfort Ekwo, and her delegation to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking during the meeting, Gufwan emphasis the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities, noting that collaboration with credible disability-focused organisations remains central to the Commission’s mandate.
“The Commission is ready to provide technical support and explore areas of collaboration that will enhance the lives of women and youth with disabilities across the country,” Gufwan said.
He added that the NCPWD remains committed to promoting inclusion, accessibility, equal opportunities, and the full participation of persons with disabilities in national development through sustained partnerships with organisations that share its vision.
The Executive Secretary also commended Sauri Growth Initiatives for its continued advocacy and community-based interventions aimed at improving the lives of persons with disabilities, encouraging the organisation to sustain its efforts in promoting disability rights and economic empowerment.
Earlier, the Founder of Sauri Growth Initiatives, Miss Comfort Ekwo, explained that the visit was aimed at establishing a stronger working relationship with the Commission to deepen disability inclusion across Nigeria.
According to her, the organisation seeks to build a sustainable partnership with the NCPWD that will provide technical support for programmes focused on empowering women and youth with disabilities while advancing inclusive development nationwide.
Ekwo also applauded the Commission’s leadership in championing inclusive policies and programmes, reaffirming her organisation’s commitment to supporting initiatives that protect the rights and improve opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The meeting concluded with both organisations reaffirming their commitment to strengthening collaboration in promoting disability inclusion, sustainable development, and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities across Nigeria.
