The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has convened a strategic roundtable engagement with key stakeholders and development partners to strengthen collaboration for the successful implementation of its 2026 Work Plan.
The meeting, held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, brought together representatives of development organizations, including ECOWAS, Sightsavers, The Leprosy Mission Nigeria, RedAid Nigeria, CHAI, and other partners committed to advancing disability inclusion in Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Hon. Ayuba Burki Gufwan, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Aliyu Agwai, expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their continued support in promoting the rights, welfare, and inclusion of persons with disabilities across the country.
He described the engagement as a crucial step toward strengthening partnerships, improving coordination, and enhancing access to reliable data needed for effective planning, policymaking, and service delivery.
According to Agwai, the meeting provided an opportunity to assess progress on ongoing initiatives, identify implementation challenges, develop practical solutions, and reinforce collaboration toward achieving the Commission’s priorities for 2026.
A major highlight of the engagement was discussions on the proposed National Disability Management Information System (NDMIS), one of the Commission’s flagship initiatives. The digital platform is expected to establish a comprehensive national database on persons with disabilities, providing credible and up-to-date data to support policy formulation, programme implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
The Commission noted that the NDMIS will also strengthen evidence-based decision-making and improve the monitoring of disability inclusion efforts nationwide.
Representatives of partner organizations reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Commission’s programmes and deepening collaboration to promote inclusive development and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The NCPWD reiterated its commitment to working closely with stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of its 2026 Work Plan in line with the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018.
